Pediatric Ward, Canberra Hospital

Canberra Hospital and other more contemporary design trends have challenged the stereotype and proven that fire ratings and maintenance criteria can be met with flair.

The architect was first drawn to the Gerflor range, Metallica, because of its reflective properties and the bright, clean, crisp colours. The colours sparkle to add life and create a living environment rather than being just another hospital facility.

“We paid special attention to the ceiling and floor, creating a space that is more of a book or story. Nothing is literal. Just ideas and suggestions so while lying in bed children can fill in the gaps with imagination to create a living environment,” Interior Designer, Karin Batschi said.
