Gerflor Taraflex sports flooring is supporting Australian Goalball competitors in their quest to represent the Australasian region at the London Paralympics next year.

In November the Aussies will take on Asia as they battle it out for that spot on the world stage at the State Sports Centre in Sydney. Meanwhile, the Australian Championships will be held at Kings School in Sydney and it is here that selectors will be looking out for the country’s top competitors to make up the national team in this dynamic sport played by visually impaired athletes.

According to Marketing Director of NSW Goalball and retired Paralympic competitor, Troy King, Gerflor’s agreement to provide flooring for the competition will help competitors to perform at their best.

“We select our Australian team from the national championships. That’s where it is so valuable to have the Gerflor Taraflex as the competition surface. This allows up to see them perform on the surface on which they will compete on the international stage,” Troy said.

Aside from obvious competition performance benefits, Gerflor’s support for Goalball is helping the association to grow the sport at grass roots level. The availability of elite level equipment is helping to assure parents and teachers of the professionalism of the sport.

“In order to attract and grow the sport we need the support and technical expertise of professional suppliers like Gerflor so that parents and teachers can feel they can trust the association. It helps to give them the confidence that we are professional and have a professional program in place,” Troy said.
